Even though we live under the New Covenant, the Ten Commandments are still God’s instruction as the building blocks of society. It is the Law upon which governments should build. As we approach voting-day, we as God’s people, need to ensure that we vote for a party that upholds God’s Ten Commandments. 8“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 9You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 10but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Does the party bow down to idols – money, themselves, and/or ancestral spirits?
11“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Does the party honour God in their speech?
12“Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you.13Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do. 15Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
Does the party support the need to rest from labour and honour God, or do they promote a workaholic culture?
16“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Does the party honour the country’s fathers and mothers who have gone before?
17“You shall not murder.
Does the party endorse the murder of the unborn? Do they consider murder a serious crime that should be punished through an effective legal system?
18“You shall not commit adultery.
Does the party protect the family institute by opposing the sex-industry in our country? Do they themselves live faithful lives as husbands or wives?
19“You shall not steal.
Does the party rule through honesty and integrity? Are they transparent in their use of money, and can they be trusted with the country’s treasury? Do they uphold the law by keeping accountable those who have stolen and plundered the nation?
20“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Does the party speak the truth, or do they slander other parties and leaders? Do they lie and deceive to get their way? Do they expose the lies of others and bring them to accountability?
21“You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor’s house or land, his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
Does the party arouse jealousy and discontent amongst the people? Do they promote taking what is not theirs, and approve of unlawful gain? Do they sow seeds of disunity and segregation by working neighbour against neighbour, or do they pull our people together in unity through giving vision, hope, and opportunity to a diverse people who can build this nation together?
