To be really relevant and cutting-edge in the Spirit, it is essential that we have a good knowledge of history. We need to be keen learners, going back and reading what we’ve forgotten… refreshing our minds and gaining new understanding of things that have been. For drawing information from the past, helps to put the present in perspective.
The prophetic is very powerful, when God’s words are put in context with past and present times. With it comes an understanding of God’s workings, and His Will and purpose for our generation, nation, and world.
I’ve been reading a really good book, ‘A History of South Africa’ by Leonard Thompson. Whilst reading it, I really felt the Lord impress the first peoples of our land upon my heart. Their suffering, their loss, the injustice they suffered.
God has a plan for South Africa. A good plan… but for Him to bring our nation into unity, He is calling us to humble ourselves before Him and pray… He wants to impress His compassion upon our hearts for those who have suffered before our time. Those who have been wounded by history…
If we will repent on behalf of our forefathers, and start praying for healing and restoration… He will do miracles, and take that which the devil meant for destruction, and turn it into the very thing that will be our strength.
Let our diversity, cultures, languages and differences be the patchwork of a breathtaking tapestry of His Grace, as we humble ourselves before God and each other, allowing our hearts to be tenderized by His love and compassion for our nation, and her first peoples.

2 Chronicles 7:13-14
13 When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people,14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

I’ve met you through my history book
I’ve stepped into your world
That once was here
It was hereA world of bows and arrows and of
Cattle, sheep and fertile fields
You were happy here
You were hereThe rocks display the stories told
Around the campfires of old
They are here
They are hereFirst peoples of my land, you are the
First peoples of my land,
You were here before
You were hereYour world was taken over by a
People fierce and violent
You were fought, right here
On this soil, right hereBut today is the day
I am saying those words you deserve to hear
Please forgive me
Please forgive me
Please forgive me
For what you’ve had to endureThe sins of our fathers
We confess
Lord forgive us
Lord forgive us
Lord forgive us
For what we have done
